In October 2017, Alicante had the honour for the fourth time of being the starting point of the prestigious round the world Volvo Ocean Race. The race takes nine months to complete with sailors battling to be the fastest around the world, facing high seas, fierce winds and the most challenging conditions.
Visitors to the museum in Alicante marina can test their sailing skills and find out about the challenges that lie ahead for these competitive sailors. Through the high-tech 3D simulators and interactive touch-screen panels, visitors can find out about the history of the race, what life is like on board, marine life and ecosystems, plus the competitors.
The museum is based at the race's state-of-the-art headquarters in Alicante marina. During your visit you can see the celebrations for the race's 40th anniversary and get a close view of the NASA-inspired race control.
The museum aims to attract andlubbers and sailing enthusiasts alike, with its displays about life at sea, sailing and sports.
