Tastings in Alicante

Alicante’s tasting scene is more than just sipping wine – it’s a peek into the region’s soul. I’ve spent countless afternoons in little bodegas and family-run spots outside the city, where the reds tell stories of old vines, and the olive oils taste like sunshine in a bottle.

One of my favorite places is the town of Villena nearby, where the local wineries open their doors for tastings that feel more like visiting family than a tourist stop. And in Alicante city itself, you can pop into bars in El Barrio for a casual tinto de verano paired with fresh seafood tapas,trust me, the anchovies and olives there are something else.

If you’re into something a bit different, try the sweet mistelas or locally made brandies, often overlooked but packed with character. And don’t miss out on the newer craft vermouth bars popping up around Plaza Nueva, where the vibe is relaxed and the pour generous.

Quick tip: tastings here are best enjoyed in spring or fall when the vineyards aren’t too hot or crowded, but you can find a cozy spot anytime. Just ask locals for their favorite bodegas or bars,you’ll get a real taste of Alicante’s everyday pleasures.
