Local Picks - Things To Do in Alicante

Every suggestion here is handpicked by Alicante locals who know the city inside out, not chosen by an algorithm or paid promotions. These are places and activities that the people who actually live here enjoy and recommend to friends. You won’t find generic tourist spots, but a blend of authentic neighbourhood experiences, seasonal highlights, and personal favourites.

For example, instead of the usual beach recommendations, you’ll find insights about the peaceful coastal walk towards Albufereta in spring or the lively Plaza de Gabriel Miró on cool evenings. The Local Picks team regularly updates this list to reflect what locals are currently enjoying or new finds worth sharing. It’s honesty over hype, perfect if you want to see Alicante like a local. Pro tip: Try timing a visit to the Central Market early in the morning , it’s less crowded, fresher, and locals often chat over coffee in the nearby bars.

Local insight for your visit

If you want a real Alicante experience, skip the midday sun and enjoy the paseo at sunset along the Explanada de España. It’s the time locals stroll home from work or meet for drinks. The mosaic tiles look stunning lit up by warm light, and the cafes along the way fill up with chatter. Also, try visiting El Barrio in the early evenings during spring or autumn. The cooler weather makes it much nicer to walk around, and you can catch locals popping into tiny bars for a quick tapa. This neighbourhood has a friendly feel, unlike other tourist-heavy parts of the city.
