Benidorm: Via ferrata Ponoig, cerca de la Nucia
Costa Blanca, Alicante
Come and live one of the most thrilling via ferratas in Alicante as most of its route is vertical, with athletic and aerial passages where the only way to descend is abseiling 25 and 35 metres down.
Overview
The Ponoig via ferrata in Polop, near Benidorm, offers a vertical climbing route with iron clamps and abseiling, suitable for experienced climbers.
Highlights
- Climb with views of the Costa Blanca coastline
- Vertical ascent using iron clamps
- Abseil down two sections of 25 and 35 metres
Description
The Ponoig via ferrata is located in Polop, about 20 minutes from Benidorm. Unlike typical via ferratas with descending trails, this route requires abseiling to descend. The climb is approximately 230 metres long and rated at difficulty level K4.
The route consists of two vertical sections. The climbing involves gripping numerous iron clamps positioned closely together, making the climb more vertical than technically difficult. Upon reaching the top, known as the Sleeping Lion, you can see panoramic views of the Costa Blanca, including Altea, La Nucia, Callosa, and Benidorm in the distance.
The descent involves following a mountain path to an abseiling station with ropes. The route includes two abseils of 25 and 35 metres respectively, which are the only way down from the via ferrata.
