BonAmb was my fiancée and I’s first Michelin star restaurant experience, and it was simply amazing. When I decided to book a Michelin star restaurant for our two year anniversary, I was a little bit skeptical, having never spent so much for a dinner. It was however 100% worth it: we were offered a wonderful appetiser before even stepping foot into the restaurant, which was followed by a welcome drink and a dried oyster. The attention to detail and friendliness of Cristina and her staff was remarkable and turned an amazing experience into an unforgettable one. We were sat at a table with a wonderful view on the restaurant’s garden and its surroundings and were offered an extra course to celebrate our anniversary simply because I had told the restaurant about the special occasion. When I apologised to Cristina for not being able to finish a dish because I had trouble eating liver, she immediately ran to the kitchen to change my next course (as it contained liver) without me even asking. All in all, I cannot recommend this restaurant enough: the staff, the kitchen, the setting are simply amazing and gave us an unforgettable night.

Our first experience at Bon Amb was truly exceptional, which is why we were very excited to return and confidently recommend the restaurant to friends. Unfortunately, this second visit did not reflect the same level of excellence we experienced the first time. During our initial visit, we were warmly welcomed at the entrance with a full glass of champagne, creating an elegant and memorable first impression. This time, however, the welcome felt noticeably less attentive. We were taken directly to the first setting and served only a very small pour of champagne. We were also asked to eat dried oysters by hand, yet no wet wipes or towels were offered before or afterwards to clean our hands which would have been appreciated. As one of our guests was pregnant, she understandably could not drink the champagne. When she politely asked whether her partner could have it instead, the request was unfortunately ignored and the glass was simply taken away. Throughout the evening, there also seemed to be limited attention given to offering suitable non-alcoholic alternatives. While a non-alcoholic aperitif was initially provided, no further initiative was taken during the meal to check whether she would like another beverage, leaving her with only water for most of the evening. Some of the guests chose the wine pairing, but here too the experience felt disappointing for a two Michelin star restaurant. The wine pours were extremely small, noticeably different from what we experienced during our previous visit and from what is generally expected at this level. One of the guests discreetly mentioned this to the sommelier, not as a complaint, but simply as feedback. Unfortunately, rather than handling the situation privately and professionally, the sommelier came directly to the table and began explaining and justifying why larger pours could not be served, which created an uncomfortable discussion in front of the entire group. A more elegant approach would perhaps have been to take the guest aside and explain the reasoning calmly and discreetly. Bread was served at the table, but basics such as olive oil, salt, and pepper were never proactively provided, and we repeatedly had to ask for them ourselves. Small details like these make a significant difference in the overall dining experience, especially at this level. The food itself was good, but unfortunately not particularly memorable or surprising. There was no dish that truly stood out, and the portions felt extremely small at times, to the point where we had eaten more bread than actual food throughout the evening. This review is written with sincere disappointment because we genuinely admired our first experience at Bon Amb and had very high expectations when returning. We truly hope the restaurant takes this feedback constructively, as attention to detail, warmth in service, and professionalism in guest interactions are what elevate a fine dining experience from good to exceptional. Unfortunately, due to this second experience, we do not feel we will return again.
