Gorgeous evening at Kinita with the tasting menu. A very relaxing and lively atmosphere with a beautiful view of the ocean. Staff were lovely and attentive. Food was a treat, although make sure you save enough room as there are many courses on the tasting menu! Would definitely recommend.
In September 2024 we walked through the reed bed to have a drink. I checked the menu and wanted to come back on a special day. As advised by KINITA in the reviews I made a reservation to secure best table possible for lunch. 🤣😥😟😱😂 In the comments I mentioned the reservation is for my friend’s 75th birthday. After reading all the positive reviews, we entered the restaurant with high expectations. I should have read the negative reviews more carefully. KINITA ruined this very special day. Not only did they NOT find our CONFIRMED reservation, even though I showed them the email confirmation, but they sat us at the cat table. We tried to enjoy this special day. Unfortunately sitting at the cat table with the service, service station, bar right behind us and clients going in and out of the restrooms made it IMPOSSIBLE to enjoy. During the entire meal all the nicer tables stayed UNOCCUPIED. I sincerely do not know what/whom they were waiting for. Sometime we really get the vibes, that foreign clients are not welcome. Just send money, but please stay in your own country. KINITA is highly OVERRATED. Sorry to state we CAN NOT recommend. Assuming (I shouldn’t have) we would seated at a nice spot. What else is the comment section and reservation good for! Very contrarily to my assumption we were seated 1. in front of the bar 2. which is right next to the service station 3. which is on the way to the restrooms and kitchen I’ve experienced that ONLY guests that do NOT have a reservation are seated at the cat-table. This seating entree (cat-table) did NOT make our experience pleasant. As the restaurant started filling there was a constant parade of other guests and service passing our cat-table. We ordered a bottle of water. We waited patiently… no water! The service had to be reminded. My friend asked for the water, again! The bottle finally arrived at our table … unfortunately without glasses. My friend then just took the glasses from the service station. We ordered tuna tartar and chad stew croquette as starters. The tuna tartar was tasty. My friend had a croquette that looked totally lost on the plate. As a main we ordered national leg of lamb and bbq pork ribs. Unfortunately the menu did not mention the lamb would be covered in prunes, which I do not like. The meat on the bbq pork ribs was very tender, unfortunately covered with a thick layer of sweet bbq sauce. All in all …we‘d give the entire experience a 2 out of 5. A nice place to have a drink, but the food is over highly recommended. I will not comment the service. Find out for yourselves. The reviews (especially the negative ones) are very enlightening. The restaurant is quick to apologize in the reviews but sadly DOESN’T IMPROVE at all. The restaurant commented this on a review: It is always best to make a reservation to secure the best possible table 🤨🤪😂 We did EXACTLY THAT and AGAIN IT didn‘t work either.
I have visited the Kinita several times, this is the second time in two years that I have had the tasting menu. Before I get into the experience, I found booking with Kinita a poor experience, there is no direct email and the booking has to be done through a not so good third party. I say not so good because there is no way of really knowing that your booking has been successful, as we found out when we asked for the tasting menu, which is only available at the weekend, and we moved our schedule to make it in time. We were told that they would have to check if it “was ok”, even though it was requested on our booking. Putting that aside though we did get the tasting menu after all, just be aware of booking online. It’s not great. The staff on the whole are good. They are professional, attentive, without over doing it. I like my Spanish waiting staff to be that way. I don’t want idle chit chat and constant grinning. I want them to polite, efficient and to the point, the staff I had on are last visit were just that. Very good. The restaurant had a downstairs part with great view of the Mar Menor, an outside part and an upstairs area, again with a view of the Mar Menor. There is a downstairs part at the back, which for me, is a bit dark and soulless. In general the restaurant is bright and clean and very pleasant to sit in. The tasting menu is made up of 4 courses, 2 appetisers, 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts. Each plate was beautifully presented, the right temperature and delicious, I could not fault any of the dishes, although by the time I got to the second dessert, I started to struggle, its a lot of food. The wine selection is very good. In terms of value I would say that the tasting menu represents excellent value for money and is highly recommended if you fancy something different. I would say this has been the 6th time I have been to Kinita. It offers a good selection of food and drink, various seating opportunities and represents good value for money. I’ve been to many MICHELIN rated restaurants that are no where near as good and wondered why this place isn’t even a bib rating. The executive lunch is amazing. Anyway that’s my take on the Kinita. The food and service was excellent, but the rodaballo was absolutely superb and the best one I've had in Spain. We eat out often in the best fish restaurants, but nothing beats this!
