Winery Museum Maserof
Bodega Maserof Jalon Alicante
Make sure you have plenty of time to explore your surroundings before dining. It's Mother Nature at her very best.
Head high into the mountains of the Sierra Bernia, above Xalo, to experience a magical time of dinner by candlelight amid stunning scenery.
Restaurante Maserof is in a 17th century farmhouse surrounded by vineyards, farmland and stunning natural beauty. In the restaurant, which is only open at weekends, you can enjoy fine Spanish dining such as fresh, local vegetables, slow cooked beef, regional sausages, grilled ribs and home-made desserts, all served with wine from their own vines.
You will dine on fine old tables with antique plates and cutlery in keeping with the surroundings. It's a fantastic setting with food and an atmosphere to match the perfect location. While there, take a look around the grounds and the wine museum, which has many interesting historical Spanish artefacts.
If you come in September you can watch (or join in) the grape harvest, which are then crushed by foot to make the chemical-free Maserof wine.
Maserof was restored in the 1970s by Englishman Peter Pateman, who started to produce wine again and set up a wine club so that others could enjoy the fine rich wine from the region too.
